Why The Colosseum was Built:
The plan to build the Colosseum started with a ruler named Vespian. First of all, before Vespian was ruler there was a ruler named Emperor Nero, and
he was not running Rome very well and he eventually committed suicide. Because Emperor Nero had not done a very great job running Rome, there were a
number of different wars that were caused even after he was dead. After Emperor Nero had died that was when Vespian became the new ruler. Before
Nero had died though there was a huge fire and after that he had built a Golden Palace for himself. When Vespian became ruler he decided that they
would tear down the Golden Palace that Nero had built and they would instead put an amphitheater. This is how the idea for the Colosseum came about.
The reason it was built though is because Vespian thought that the Romans could use more excitement and entertainment.
